Meet Ms. Lelo V. Washington. Our Executive Director, Gigi, met her by chance encounter, of all places, at a nail salon one weekend about 3 weeks after Hurricane Harvey. After overhearing Lelo’s conversations between her and her friend along with phone calls between she and different churches; Gigi introduced herself and inquired for information on people we, the Cardiovascular Foundation of SETX, could possibly help through our Hurricane Harvey Patient Assistance Relief Program, since it seemed so obvious this woman was in the trenches in lending a helping for others in need. Lelo V. Washington was so grateful and began to immediately give names of several elderly folks in her neighborhood that had been hit hard with the flooding. It wasn’t until a few days later we discovered Lelo, herself, had lost EVERYTHING. She is a retired diabetic whom up until a year ago was her father’s caretaker. What a humble and selfless human being! During a desperate time of her own, this woman chooses to focus on helping others first. Needless to say, our Executive Director was thrilled to give Lelo a $500 Walmart gift card as a contribution to assist her during this time of need. PS: Her smile is absolutely contagious even through all the hardships she’s currently experiencing.
