I’m deeply honored today to be speaking on behalf of the Cardiovascular Foundation of Southeast Texas. My dear friend, Dr. Rudy Sotolongo, is, of course, the director and the founder of this great, marvelous research foundation.
I’m carrying here a shotgun and I wish I could be there with you to shoot those clay pigeons and enter the contest. I used to be a gunnery officer in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era. With the last name of Huntsman, I love to shoot, you can imagine the enjoyment I get out of it but I’m afraid today, with my health the way it is, I’ll have to stay here in Utah and just pretend like I’m shooting out the window. In fact, I’m a pretty good shot right now, we have several deer and a few elk running around in the mountains behind us, so I may end up getting a shot or two off today after all.
But this is a great foundation. I want you to know that Dr. Rudy has been one of the finest doctors I’ve ever met. He is, of course, one of the doctors that attends to me and I think I have the best team in the world. And Dr. Rudy is leading that team. He has this great foundation and it is an honor to contribute toward it. It’s to provide research for new means and methods of helping those who have heart problems. It’s to provide scholarships for the under-served and for those who want to go on and do medical research and to get involved in the medical field. And it is also, of course, to help those who can’t help themselves, the poor, the needy, the indigent.
Dr. Rudy is a charitable, kind, gracious man. He and his lovely wife, Nettie, are so kind and considerate to everybody. I hope that you’ll reach deep in your pockets and that you’ll make this a great success for him. And that we together can help Rudy raise money for such a wonderful foundation. We are happy and honored to present him a check each year.
I want Rudy to know, you’re a dear friend Rudy, I thank my good friend, Wayne Reaud, for introducing me to you. What a joy that we’ve had of being together. Thank you for taking such good care of me. I love you and good luck to you Rudy.
