Griffin Barnett was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) in utero at 18 weeks. HLHS is a birth defect that affects blood flow through the heart. While there is still no cure, treatment for HLHS consists of three stages of open heart surgeries. Griffin had his first surgery at four days old, his second at three months old, and a third in September of 2017. After a couple of good months, Griffin went into severe heart failure in February of 2018.
Griffin’s amazing team at Texas Children’s Hospital did everything they could to help him, and eventually, his doctors and family decided that a heart transplant was his best option for a better quality of life.
A healthy heart became available for Griffin on May 19th, 2018, and he received this gift the next day. He has been doing amazingly ever since. There is still a lot of recovery, many tests, and follow-ups Griffin and his family must endure, but they are beyond grateful for so many chances at life, and count their blessings daily.
The 2019 CFST Shoot-Out will benefit Griffin Barnett and his family.
